Book reviews, Ribbon Embroidery, the Guild of Master Craftsmen and introduction to Afghan crochet

In this blog post I review a Ribbon Embroidery book while also making mention of a few useful books published by GMCP, and I introduce you to a useful affordable book  by Rita Weiss " Make in a Weekend Afghans to Crochet".

Ribbon Roses - 32 Exquisite Ribbon Embroidery Projects , (East Sussex, 1999) , Guild of Master Craftsman Publications, Ltd.
Book, Ribbons & Roses By Lee Lockheed

If this book has to be described in one adjective only is Luxurious! And not surprisingly the projects featured in this book are...

Incredibly silky looking cushions, jackets, blankets, bedsheets, pillowcases, framed pictures, gifts, baskets, slippers and a brooch , all very luxurious and all very Victorian looking and all very easy to make with Silk Ribbon available on Amazon

The author provides schemes for all required stitches , for silk embroidery general techniques, for selecting ,preparing, measuring and cutting fabric and patterns and designs for all items that require such.

The publisher , The Guild of Master Craftsman Publications Ltd., is the largest traders network in the country publishing magazines and books individually or as subscription.

The Guild of Master Craftsmen Group

I own other books by the Guild of Master Craftsmen because the publications cater for people who want to make , want to make it well, but have little time and don't want to spend too much on the materials .

The "Weekend Makes" Collection is perhaps the most popular books to consider because they are A5 size , could well pass as a small booklet and yet comprise a selection of projects the craftsmen or craftswoman can execute quickly.

A cheaper option which I really love because of the quality is the "Make in a Weekend" Series by Leisure Arts Publications.

I have the " Make in a Weekend Afghans"  , which I bought on Amazon for £4.87. Is a brilliant book by Rita Weiss, a very prolific writer and mostly known for her book available on Kindle " Favourite Irish Crochet Designs".

Crochet is a very inexpensive craft to pursue. You can purchase a set of  bundle of Afghan crochet needles, with accessories on Amazon Prime for as little as £12.98 . The bundle includes a scissor, several needles to finish the projects, several stich markers to keep your stiches will counted and regular, a measuring tape to make sure you keep up with the measurements of your work and 12 Bamboo Afghan crochet hooks of several sizes.

What is your favourite book of all mentioned in this blog post? Leave your comments below.

Best wishes.

Ariane
