* Ariane's Crochet and Knitting Tools Evolution : Part 2 of 4 : MORRIS AND YEOMAN'S manufacturers Ltd Online resources and objects for study

Morris and Yeomans knitting pins manufacturers history online resources fall through the end of the Victorian period and throughout the Edwardian period.

This business was not out of the extraordinary if compared with other impressive inventors and steel industry innovators. As a matter of fact, Morris and Yeomans inventions  were overshadowed by other Worcestershire steel industry manufacturers ,

"Invention and Success
Ichabod Washburn (1798-1888) came from Millbury to Worcester in 1818 without money or family ties, and thirty years later he ranked among the city’s richest and most influential citizens. Washburn was best known of his generation of men-men with mechanical talent and ambition who were attracted to Worcester by the opportunity to prosper in the growing sector. He established a company for making wire in 1831 and over time developed key innovations in its manufacture. When he died in 1868, the company was the largest wire making firm in America. It was valued at one million dollars." in

However, Morris and Yeomans products were quite popular and to me illustrate the transition from the Victorian to Edwardian eras through the use of their materials and the weight the business had in Social history, for example Morris and Yeomans hair pins were quite fashionable and appealing to women.

This brought me to gather the following resources .

The resources listed above are relevant in marking this era of evolution of the crochet and knitting tools not only by reflecting  the transition from wire to steel ( pay particular attention to the two cones of knitting pins and how the materials differ in material and appearance), but also because are resources informing us of the social history and economic business context of the time.

Best wishes,

Ariane
