Designer, illustrator, crafter and prolific writer, household name Clare Youngs is to me a true genius of creation for people who love creating and if possible recycling when making quick fashion handbags. I truly wish I could read and review all her books, as this author brings so much life to anyone's life via her ideas and crafts!
However, in these series of book reviews we can only review one book. And how fantastic is this book The Perfect Handmade Bag: Recycle and reuse to make 35 beautiful totes, purses and more ? Is ten out of ten!
There are no excuses for anyone storing coats and jackets for years, waiting to lose weight, or for the items come back to fashion! The portfolio of handbag designs with easy instructions and accessible materials and methods of making ( handsewn or machine sewn) really make it tempting to have a go at recycling old garments into fab handbags.
As per contents table below, the book is divided into purpose and occasion of use of handbags,
And the sourcing materials remind us that is okay to recycle as a matter of fact, is a good idea!
The level of difficulty of the projects is easy so don't let any inexperience set you back from getting rid of old garments stuck in your wardrobe year after year!
My favourite project is the black felt handbag as I have an old black corduroy coat that no longer suits me and would be perfect for the task!
This book of over 100 pages has many projects for tweed jackets and overcoats that suit any occasion . Below are my favourite casual handbags.
If winter had it hard on your curtains and you need new ones, make sure to recycle the fabrics into easy-made handbags like these,
The six pages dedicated to techniques really make it easy for anyone beginning their sewing journey or for those who need a quick brush up into the sewing basics.
The six pages dedicated to templates list the templates in order of appearance of projects in the book, the shapes are very easy to copy into your desired size of handbag,
The list of suppliers is well intended but now in 2021 the Cov-19 pandemic has shifted many warehouses and wholesalers to online platforms.
Hope this review proved useful and suggestive, share it via Pinterest
Best wishes,
Ariane
