*British History Heritage Shire Library: Bloomsbury Publications

I would define the Shire Books by Bloomsbury as concise, well researched, affordable, summarised to the most essential and accurate succinct detail, thin, small and most importantly, illustrated guides to the most interesting and often most forgotten topics of British History Heritage.

Front cover of the copy Ariane Crafts Blog owns, 1st edition, 1978
A photograph of two sewing chatelaines in page 31

The contents of the book are the following,

*Introduction

*Needlework and related activities

*Thimbles and thimble cases

*Needle cases

*Pincushion and emery cushions

*Tape measures

*Thread holders, winders, waxers and reel-stands

*Scissors

*Miscellaneous accessories

*Further reading

*Places to visit

In 2004 Needlework Tools was republished under a different title, "Needlework and Embroidery Tools" and therefore the 2st edition dates 2004.

The book is available for sale directly from the publisher here.

Best wishes,

Ariane Crafts
