Petit Point Clarification, Ariane Crafts

Ariane Crafts Christmas Ornaments are not executed in Penelope double weave canvas. I have the canvas stored for Ariane Crafts handbags because a few months ago was decided to reduce the canvas phi .

If you are following me for a while you might remember this post regarding the reduction of canvas phi for the Georgia Summer wedding bags.

The Occasion  Georgia Summer Wedding bag is too formal to be executed with large ( French call it gross) yarn and will be more in line with traditional Berlin work  seen especially during Victorian times, of handbags executed in petit points.

This ornaments are still petit points ( gross - French, large British language) , which is known as tapestry stitch, continental stitch, etc.

Here are some pictures of a very dear book I have in French Le Petit Point by Anne- Marie Giffard, with a lengthy history of Petit Points evolutions and use , and mostly important clarifying the distinction between large(gross , mostly used for large tapestries for domestic use) and normal petit points in Penelope canvas.

Feel free to email me for further information. Below are pictures of the book mentioned above and also the canvas I have in storage for the 2022 Occasion Georgia Summer handbags, which I would really appreciate if any of my followers can put a word with St George Church to have the bags sold in this Church for charitable purposes, community raffles, etc.

My second design Application: Wedding or Georgia Summer Handbag Occasion

This handbag design is now registered with the UK Design Registration Authority.

It is designed and executed by me using different stitches on zweigart canvas.

Previous posts regarding the creation and execution of this bag:

1. https://arianecrafts.blogspot.com/2021/06/georgia-summer-handbags-go-to-weddings.html

2.  https://arianecrafts.blogspot.com/2021/06/georgia-summer-wedding-handbag-is-ready.html

This design is unique because it is original in design and in the combination of stitches used, as well as the meaning.

We really take pride in the combination of stitches in our wedding handbags because we combined two different cross stitches together, the simple traditional cross stitch in white yarn and the St George Cross Stitch in wine glitter yarn.

The symbolism of the handles wrapped in flower is also evident as resembles the floral arches at St George Wedding hall in Liverpool.

If you would like me to design your handbags please contact me as I am looking for opportunities to design and develop my craft.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Best wishes,

Ariane

Excerpt of my design application 31st of May 2021 : Georgia Summer Handbag is fully registered ( protected) with the UK Design Registration Authority!

I felt at the time and still do that, a textile design has character per se based on the composition and that the material itself adds a particular character that needs to be on paper or in this case in picture.

Why include the canvas in my registration? My handbag is made on canvas , however the locker hooking stitches resemble crochet stitches, and even the crochet stitch ( first fabric stitch from bottom) is on crochet on canvas. The material itself conditions the design as I am mixing materials ( fabric and yarn) on canvas and using stitches which are peculiar and have not been mixed yet. This is an important step in my creation. This handbag is unique as this has never been done and most importantly these stitches are worth more when in canvas then in a simple crochet. It is hard manual work done by me that also constitutes part of the design, as it is unique, innovative and is mine..

 Main stitches Bottom to top:

1. Cross stitch DMC Natura Xl

2. Combination of three stitches: Cross stitch, back stitch and stem stitch

3. Crochet on canvas

4.Cross stitch

5. Colonial locker hooking

Main design meaning bottom to top based on stitches and colour choices:

1.  The British left to the Americas in a summer day, no turbulence

2. The currents were crossed

3.The big barrier was crossed

4.The coast sea was clear and lucid

5.The settlers economy flourished and the Colonial locker hooking stitch prevailed and blossomed while in Europe the locker hooking stitch fell in the forgotten and unknown.

Using stitches to tell a story while making ethically sourced bags.
