Excerpt of my design application 31st of May 2021 : Georgia Summer Handbag is fully registered ( protected) with the UK Design Registration Authority!

I felt at the time and still do that, a textile design has character per se based on the composition and that the material itself adds a particular character that needs to be on paper or in this case in picture.

Why include the canvas in my registration? My handbag is made on canvas , however the locker hooking stitches resemble crochet stitches, and even the crochet stitch ( first fabric stitch from bottom) is on crochet on canvas. The material itself conditions the design as I am mixing materials ( fabric and yarn) on canvas and using stitches which are peculiar and have not been mixed yet. This is an important step in my creation. This handbag is unique as this has never been done and most importantly these stitches are worth more when in canvas then in a simple crochet. It is hard manual work done by me that also constitutes part of the design, as it is unique, innovative and is mine..

 Main stitches Bottom to top:

1. Cross stitch DMC Natura Xl

2. Combination of three stitches: Cross stitch, back stitch and stem stitch

3. Crochet on canvas

4.Cross stitch

5. Colonial locker hooking

Main design meaning bottom to top based on stitches and colour choices:

1.  The British left to the Americas in a summer day, no turbulence

2. The currents were crossed

3.The big barrier was crossed

4.The coast sea was clear and lucid

5.The settlers economy flourished and the Colonial locker hooking stitch prevailed and blossomed while in Europe the locker hooking stitch fell in the forgotten and unknown.

Using stitches to tell a story while making ethically sourced bags.
