THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF NEEDLEWORK EMBROIDERY KITS

The Royal School of Needlework , founded in 1872 is located in Hampton Court Palace in Surrey.

Beside running courses and workshops, the Royal School of Needlework is also a publisher and a commercial entity selling exclusive designs for tapestry and embroidery for basic and more advanced stitchers keen in crewel embroidery and retro forms of needlework.

Cushion kits of notice are,

Painted Cat Needlepoint Kit  £72.00

Painted Elephant Needlepoint Kit

The Crewel Work Company Marriage Pillow Kit

£155.00

Llama Tapestry Kit – Historical Sampler

Kiss Counted Cross Stitch Kit by Emily Peacock

Jacqui McDonald Crewelwork Tree of Life Kit

£54.00

Jacqui McDonald Crewelwork Pomegranate Kit

Jacqui McDonald Crewelwork Parrot Kit

Jacqui McDonald Crewelwork Leaf Kit

Though the kits are expensive beyond doubt, the skills of the craft developed while executing these kits with a great historical value make it quite expensive and valuable items per se.

I came to realize how expensive and valuable these kits were when I read THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF NEEDLEWORK AND EMBROIDERY edited by LANTO SYNGE. This book of 249 pages covers centuries of decorative needlework and embroidery and in most pages with illustrations we find designs , patterns and techniques practiced centuries ago.

These kits are forms of cultural celebration and historical revival of beauty - of how we capture the most unique rare moments of animals , people and nature. Isn't this expensive and well worst of keeping alive?

I for once found the kits expensive, so I purchased THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF NEEDLEWORK ESSENTIAL STITCH GUIDES BY JACQUI MCDONALD so I could learn from this Graduate tutor at the RSN, and also have access to the 4 last kits I listed above as her guide contains the patterns and instructions for the Pomegranate ( Page 38 -40), Tree of Life ( Pages 86-87) and Parrot ( Pages 88-89). The book is an indispensable Guide to fabrics, framing prior to starting work, design transfer and basics as how to position the needle.

Other books and magazines published by THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF NEEDLEWORK AND EMBROIDERY cover many other dozens of techniques as Goldwork and can be purchased at the school official shop .

Until next time,

Best wishes,

Ariane
